Should I get a Sun conure or a Green Cheek conure and why?

I wanna get a conure in a couple months but i’m not sure whether i should get a sun conure or green cheek. The green cheek is more affordable and not as loud as the sun conure but the sun conure is a lot nicer looking and bigger.

I’d go with the green conure. You will be surprised at how loud they can be. Good luck and remember you will have it for the next 20 to 30 years.

Both are great, often playful birds. The Green Cheek is often a highly reccomended bird and yes, not as loud as the Sun.

To me, it looks like you like the Sun Conure most. Do make sure that you listen to these birds scream in person first. I have a rainbow lorikeet which is LOUD, and apparently sun conures are slightly louder – and constantly so (this is what I have heard from various sun conure owners, never experienced it myself).
Here’s a vid of them making some noise: http://www.singing-wings-aviary.com/conures.htm

If you don’t think you and the people living in your home (and the neighbours) can stand the noise sun conures make (although keep in mind you can train them not to scream, but they will still make noise), then go for the adorable green cheek conure. :)

And I do think the green cheek conure still looks stunning in person. :)

green cheeks tend to be nippy more so as they reach maturity even when hand raised

Sun conures are very loud but if you are okay with because i have a black caped conure and his very sweet but he does scream but that’s the only problem is if you don’t like screaming.

Also keep in mind of all love, care, and attention birds require! I have bad both Sun & Green Cheek conures. Sun Conures as you know are very loud. So be sure you live in a place where neighbors wont complain! But as far as both birds go, they are absolutely the sweetest things! Conures are a unique pet, they crawl up and cuddle with you under the blankets!

I have a green cheek and I love the bird. They don’t really talk but he can whistle “pretty bird” and has a great personality. He is actually cuddly and sweet although he can bite when he gets excited. Before you get one though remember, they are like having a child. You have to spend time with them, get them out of their cages and socialize them. It’s not like getting a fish or even a puppy. They DEMAND attention. Also, I would try to adopt a rescued parrot before buying one from a breeder. try petfinder.com or a local parrot rescue. You’ll feel better knowing you’ve saved a bird! Good luck!

The green cheek will be a lot quiter. I have a Sun Conure, and he can be very vocal in the morning, or when it is dark outside and he wants the lights off.
If you have an apartment, or neighbors who are irritated easily, I wouldn’t recommend the Sun.
Green Cheeks are beautiful in their own way. Which ever you choose, just make sure you can devote enough play time with your conure and he will be happy.
