Ringneck Parakeet

Following their escape from aviaries around London, Ring-neck Parakeet’s have now established large wild colonies. The birds now number in their hundreds within these colonies and they are now spreading across the south east of England. Ring-necks are very beautiful and make lots of noise when flying, in time they find feeding stations, bird feeders and bird tables in gardens, It’s great to see such an ‘exotic’ bird come down to feed. But what affect will they have on our native bird-life. I …

I`m deeply shaken by the advice that as from next year you will be permitted to kill them. Given a choice,i`d rather have Parakeets than pigeons-much livelier and more cheerful to look at.

I didn’t know that,I think of warm climates when I think of India, I have had Zippy for 4 yrs. now,he is great and can talk almost as well as my African Grays can. Your lucky to have these wild ones ti watch,I hope nobody ever culls them. There are other ways of keeping birds out of crops.

Hi, glad you like the video. Our winter weather dose not worry them, they are native to northen India and live at fairly high altitude around the snow line. In this part of England ( just south of London ) we don’t get many days of realy cold weather just a lot of rain but very little frost and snow. Now they have finished nesting, we see flocks of ringnecks of up to 30 at a time flying over the garden and there is one group living on Esher Common of over 1,000 birds.
    good luck with your pet

Hi, I’m glad that someone out there has heard of Isao Tomita. I first started to listen to his music in the mid 70′s and have every album up to date some on vinyl others on CD and MP3′s, Call me sad, but I love the way he makes the synthasizer come to life. all in all a great artist.

  15. christhedaddy says:

thanks o7jimmy, they are great fun to watch and a plesure to film.

  16. o7jimmy says:

    Wonderful video. *5/5* Stars.

  17. mildredsmittens says:

turns out this tomita fella is influenced by carlos – so my guess wasn’t very far removed.

lets hope with all this global warming i too will see parakeets on my bird table soon.

  18. mildredsmittens says:

    walter carlos?

  19. erra404 says:

That music is very appropriate for this. Back in my synchronized swimming days, I swam to some of Tomita’s music.

We don’t have indian ringnecks living wild near Philadelphia.

  20. erra404 says:

The music is by Tomita. I have the record in vinyl. He was one of the first using synthasizer sounds in recording.

There are no IRNs living wild in Southeastern, Pennsylvania that I know of. There are some wild Quaker Parakeets in New York City, but they are illegal to own here, and they would be killed if found.

I find IRNs and Quakers beautiful.

  21. christhedaddy says:

    no, but keep trying!

  22. mildredsmittens says:

it’s not wendy carlos is it?

  23. mildredsmittens says:

what kind of disturbing music is that? imagine forcing someone to listen to that tune for a whole day – the unfortunate victim would probably jump around and flap their imaginary parakeet wings after a short while.

  24. o7jimmy says:

Very very good video and beautiful parakeets.
