If you were going away and needed a Pet Sitter, what kind of questions might you ask them, besides rates?

Like:

Do you pick up mail?

Can you give oral medications?

Do you bathe/groom?

ETC…
Ok, what is bonded?
Is it important to know about your pet sitter?

  1. James says:

    Are they bonded.
Other peoples names they have sat for,and can you contact them.

  2. Tygerlyli says:

What experience with animals do you have?

Do you have a way to get my animal to the vet if there was an emergency?

How often will you come by/how much time will you spend with my animal each day?

    References?

Can you water some plants while you are there? Bring in the newspaper?

Do you have someone trust worthy who could take over for you if something were to happen? Like if you got sick, hurt, or had a personal emergency you need to take care of?

  3. me says:

    i would ask
    how much experience
do you have experience in emergency situations?
are you afraid to call 911 or call vets in bad situations (or call for help)?
    do you have pets?
are you okay with animals; dogs, cats, rodents, reptiles, etc
if dog: will you walk it
if cat: will yo change litter box

  4. softfurrycritters says:

It depends on the type of animal, but it’s important to know:

    Are they reliable?
Do they know the proper care for the animal?
Do they have pets of their own? Have they had pets of their own?
Have they ever owned the specific animal they are caring for?
If dog: Will they walk your dog?
If cat: Will they change the litter box?
Are they willing to pet sit the animal at your house or will you be taking it to their house?
Do they have a reliable back up person in case something comes up and they can’t watch your animal; accident, sick, death, etc.?
Do they like the specific kind of animal they will be pet sitting?
Do they know what to do in case of an emergency?

Remember to leave the vet number, emergency vet number, a number to reach you at, and money in case of an emergency for your pet.
