How can I put a parakeet to sleep without killing it?

By crittercare in Birds on December 3rd, 2009

I have a parakeet that has a very small lower beak, and the upper one has overgrown to the point that it curved around and it’s beginning to dig into its throat. I cannot afford to take it to a veterinary, so I would like to put it to sleep and cut its upper peak myself with a nail clipper or something of the sort.

Please assist in me in this problem as I do not want the bird to suffer, but I also don’t want to kill it. Thanks.

  1. You need to take it to a vet to get it done.

  2. Your Insane.
Who cares if you can’t afford it, your gonna kill the thing!

  3. Go to your local ASPCA. They will get it taken care of.

If you can not afford medical care for your animals then you shouldn’t own one.

  4. theanswertoyourquestion

You need to take it to the vet. Doing it yourself is out of the question.

  5. well im no bird expert but maybe you could try to file it down with a nail file!! if that workes that you should give the bird a treat that the birdie can shave its own beak down on by itsself!

P.S don’t dare try to clip the beak by your self!!!
    THAT IS ANIMAL CRUILTY!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. nitequill in a thimble mixed with water

  7. that’s what a cuddle bone is for!! the cuttle bone trims the beak as the birds eat it, try it for about 2 weeks and if that doesn’t work go to the vat if cut out the peak of the beak your bird wont be able to eat anymore, possibly die, sick or fever!

  8. if you Truly love your pet, you can afford it to take it to a vet..

  9. As others have said “Take it to the vet” again as others have said in a similar way if you cant take it to a vet why do you have it.

If you truly care for the bird you would take it to a Avian Vet (a bird vet)
Let me put it this way!
If your front teeth pierced your bottom lip would you go to a doctor and or a dentist.. I know your answer should be “YES” . Or would you give your self a sedative and get a stranger to file them down for you. I assume Yourr answer is “Don’t be silly” or similar

So what are you waiting for regardless of the cost … Take the bird to an avian vet.

Your bird will love you for it I a sure … Why allow your bird to suffer any longer. What is more important to you your bird or your money.

Use you pocket money and common sense (cents)
