Hello, My dog just had surgery today and the vet gave us pills ( Rimadyl) Well it says they are 75mg and to cut in half. Well inside the bottle is 4 pills instead of 2. And they are pre cut. I am afraid of over dosing my dog. (she is a small corgi [1year])
So do i give her the pill whole (pre cut whole) or half of the pill) I have already called the pet hotline on the bottle but they don’t know since they haven’t seen her…and the vets office is closed.
Much thanks for help.

the 1/2 pill is one dose
give her the whole half of the already broken up pills. The vet tech that spoke with me after I had my dog spayed opened the bottle in front of me and broke a few and showed me how easy they are to break, she also said they already broke the pills in half of the other bottle. If the vet told you to give your dog half a pill for 4 days then give her the whole half… if she said give your dog half a pill for 8 days then half the half!! i’d just use my best judgement in that case and say give her the whole thing but that’s just me
1/2 pill is one dose
Rimadyl is a pain medication. I would suggest giving her one of the halves(1/2 of the pill) until you can get into contact with your vet.
She should be just fine, just remember to give the rimadyl with food.!!
The vet cut them in half for you so you wouldnt have to, and must have forgotten to change the directions on the bottle. as the person above me already stated- one half pill is one dose. if you have given him a whole pill- dont worry, your dog at one year weighs enough not to become overdosed.
the vet pre cut the pills for you..all you have to do is give the dog the pre cut pill…it will not over dose him as the vet already cut the pills in half for you…
If I read your question right, the vet’s office split the pills for you. so instead of 2 large round pills, you have 4 half rounds.
so you should be giving her 1 of the four pieces
They usually pre-cut it for you. My dog needed 1/6 of a pill every dose, so they split each tiny pill in 6ths!
the correct dosage is 2mg per pound once a day with food. Doublr the dogs weight for the correct dosage once a day.
At that dosage I would gather that she is roughly 20 pounds give or take, so 1/2 of a 75mg pill (if they are chewables it is brown , fairly large and square, scored in the middle) is the correct dosage once a day.
Well, we have a Bulldog on Rimadyl. She weighs about 52 lbs. Our pills are 100mg. They are not precut. We are to give her 1/2 pill (50mg) twice a day for a total of 100mg. per day. I really don’t know how much your Corgi weighs, but, if it were me, I would give 1 of the precut, which would equal 37.5 mg. if she is suppose to get it twice a day. So, that would be 4 total doses, for two days. 2 doses per day for 2 days would=4 pills. God, I hope I am right on this one. Also, check her weight compared to the weight of my dog and see if this makes sense to you. Good luck.
