Flourish Excel – 16.9 oz.

Product Description
Flourish Excel is a simple source of readily available organic carbon. All plants require a source of carbon. This is typically obtained from CO2, but, may also be obtained via relatively simple organic compounds (such as photosynthetic intermediates). Since both processes occur simultaneously one can derive a substantial benefit with the use of Flourish Excel either alone or in conjunction with CO2 injection. Flourish Excel also has iron reducing properties which promote the ferrous state of iron (Fe2), which is more easily utilized by plants than ferric iron (Fe3) Flourish Excel is recommended for use with the entire family of Flourish products as well as our gravel, Flourite, our GH builder, Equilibrium, and our non-phosphate buffers, Acid Buffer and Alkaline Buffer. 500 mL will treat 100 gallons for 1-2 months.

This product is a must for a planted tank, especially one without CO2 supplementation. This product not only supplies the carbon needed for plants to thrive, it also has the side benefit of controlling algae. I had a real problem in my tank with red brush algae. Although Seachem does not endorse this product as an algae controller, this product eliminated the algae problem and brought it under control. For a severe problem, you may have to “double dose” for a few days (also not recommended by Seachem, but as long as it is not done for extended periods of time, it does not seem to hurt).

This product was suggested at an aquarium gardener’s club meeting as something that feeds aquatic plants and knocks the algae right out of the tank. I tried it out, and in less than a week, the hair algae that was plaguing my tanks was blasted out. Try it if you want a gorgeous aquatic garden with healthy plants!

The Flourish Excel Carbon made a critical difference in my planted tank. My plants started going downhill despite using API food, the next day after using this product I saw a reduction of algae and some improvement in my plants. After weeks of use all of my plants are taking off!!!

  4. When dosing make sure your fish aren’t breathing heavy. If they are, you’ve poured too much in. Immediately change some water until your fish are breathing normally. Excel also isn’t good with the Vallisnerias. Flourish Excel will melt Vallisnerias.

I have used Flourish Excel to kill Black Beard Algae many times. If you don’t have CO2, this may be a good alternative to giving plants their required carbon source. Remember, the most important factor when growing plants is having the proper plant lighting and having the correct amount of light.

  5. I’ve had difficulty getting my plants to grow, primarily java fern, and anubias. I had plants just melting away due to to much light and not enough nutrients for the plants. After using the flourish excel for about 3-4 weeks, the plants have new growth. All in all the product works, who would have thought if plants are given co2 and enough light they grow.
