My two pet rats have recently been to the vet because they have pneumonia, they were injected 3 times. One of them now has a large red circle where the needle had been inserted, i have been using E45 cream on the wound. The other rat has been acting different she is being more destructive, eating paper etc. Why is this? She is still very active and is always running about. But i have put them into a different cage and room whist they are on their medication, could this have anything to do with the odd behaviour??
Thanks.

The one rat’s behavior sounds very normal. I would be concerned with the spot on the other rat, however. Just as people can have adverse reactions to medications, so can rats. I would call the vet just to be safe.
Generally female rats are very frisky, but you really should go to the vet and make sure your oter rats O.K
I only know about the red circle. I have read about this. Did they give the shot in the back of the neck? This is where the vet might want to, but shouldent, give the shot. Take it back to the vet and complain. I dont know what they can do for it. All i know is that it is very painful for the rats. They should never give it in that area. Show them this website: http://www.freewebs.com/crittercity/generalhealthcare.htm . If you scroll down a little more than halfway, It shows a picture of some medication, needles, and then below that, a rat with a red spot on its back.
